As the year winds down, it is refreshing to see the Aussies performing a lot better on the sporting front with Mitchell Johnson with his moustache and pace bringing back memories of a bygone era.
It has also been a much better year for the share markets here and globally. The article from MLC Investment Management highlights how good a year it has been – The Year in Review. A combination of factors has resulted in the improved performance of the share market including the actions by the world’s major central banks.
The best performing asset class at a return of approximately 37% for the year – unhedged global shares – highlights the importance of asset allocation and having a properly diversified investment strategy and not being Australian centric. Unhedged global shares has benefited from the declining Australian dollar. Bonds have been the worst performing asset class during the year making it very tough for retirees who followed a defensive strategy or for investors who were not invested in growth assets.`
Many of the uncertainties that existed in 2013 still remain unresolved for 2014 which depending on what decisions are made could have a major impact on the returns for the Australian and global share markets in 2014.
We are constantly reviewing our investment strategies to take into account the ongoing uncertainties and to maximize your risk adjusted returns for the long term.
